His previous studies at Goldsmiths shaped a research-led approach centred on perception, embodied experience, and material experimentation through recipe-based processes. Working across furniture and installation, Ho’s practice explores multi-sensory interaction beyond the visual. He investigates how bio-based composite materials can invite tactile engagement over time and build emotional connections between people and objects. His work questions the dominance of purely functional or image-led furniture, proposing material honesty and emotional durability as responses to fast furniture culture. Alongside his academic practice, Ho has undertaken an internship with SOAR Running, gaining experience in teaser animation, print development, and pop-up store installation. Project Description GROUND is a collection that aims to represent considered furniture design, creating multi-sensory experiences at home with materiality at the forefront. This concept originated from personal experience with family members' vision loss and aims to address their needs in the home environment. While initially focused on visual impairment, the design collection seeks to benefit a broader range of users by emphasising sensory experiences that extend beyond sight. It aims to provide a consistent surface texture to enhance predictability with a single touch, contributing to a more inclusive environment. Crafted from granulated and expanded cork with a natural latex binder, these pieces offer a near-body-temperature sensation with their irregular surfaces. This tactile quality helps the furniture stand out in the home even without vision, where most objects lack distinguishable materiality, making them recognisable and accessible to a variety of users. The collection also showcases soft-impact features, a subtle sense of quietness and a transparent material logic, grounding the user within their environment. These designs stimulate the senses through their material qualities, transcending traditional natural-inspired forms. Bringing in tactile texture and a woody scent from the outdoor nature invites the user to get close to the furniture. These sensory qualities also allow people to experience and recognise natural environments in interior settings. Using cork granules bound with natural latex, the work reimagines cork as an aggregate material rather than a standard sheet or block. This approach allows for fluid, organic forms while maintaining a mono-material system that supports circularity. The tactile, thermally neutral qualities of cork invite touch and prolonged engagement, encouraging users to build personal connections with the objects. For instance, I collaborated with a customer to create a liquid spray by increasing the saturation level of alkali in their product to remove heavy oil. Despite encountering setbacks, I learned to analyze the problem and find solutions by paying attention to details. To counteract moisture loss caused by the raised saturation level, we added glycerol to the product. I worked as a communicator and researcher at a chemical firm, where I facilitated experiments, developed projects, and acted as a liaison between clients and the science team. Through this experience, I learned how to think on a micro-scale when designing a product and how different knowledge can fit into various industries. I also gained insight into the future use of chemical products and how to solve problems from the user's perspective. By layering multiple sleeves on a flat fabric, users create unique styles by themselves. My understanding of fabric production, manufacturing processes, and fabric characteristics has grown significantly this year. I now feel more self-assured in selecting the appropriate fabric for various applications, such as furniture upholstery and outdoor gear. I experimented with gray cloth to observe how different physical and chemical processes would affect it and learned to identify patterns. Project intro Our attention span has shortened due to easier access to information, and it is expected to worsen soon in the next few generations. Distraction is being introduced as a negative power, disturbing our task. This project aims to solve the shortened attention span by promoting mind wandering through gentle distractions integrated into the design, to help neurodivergent users zoning into the workflow. These distractions include ongoing rocking rhythm and self-reflexology foot massages to stimulate the reflex zones in our bodies for longer-term concentration. Moreover, a manually set 40Hz binaural vibration difference is emitted to bring distracted users back into the flow. Prototype 3: Testing if Mild Distractions Improve Concentration by Triggering Mind Wandering Inspired by Vago's research in 2018 on mind wandering loss feeling of time passing: Participants are asked to do two sessions of online research about how distraction can help concentration. One on a normal chair and desk for 7 minutes and the other one in the zone-in space for 8 minutes. Sound System integrated Rocking/ Swinging seat&nbsp;In the previous experiment, I found that sound can be a major distraction. To help refocus attention, I'm testing periodic sounds combined with gentle distractions. When the above concentration experiment was tested , there are people come and go in the photography room that gave too much a distraction. The tuning forks are used to block out excessive distraction from the environment that is large enough to drag the user away.
