Echoes of Touch explores sculptural cork furniture that encourages multi-sensory interaction beyond vision to foster emotional connection and re-engage underused domestic spaces. In response to fast furniture culture and contemporary homes prioritising efficiency over experience, the project investigates how material interaction can restore a sense of intimacy and presence in everyday environments.
Using cork granules bound with natural latex, the work reimagines cork as an aggregate material rather than a standard sheet or block. This approach allows for fluid, organic forms while maintaining a mono-material system that supports circularity. The tactile, thermally neutral qualities of cork invite touch and prolonged engagement, encouraging users to build personal connections with the objects.
By shifting the focus from function to experience, the project proposes emotional durability as a form of sustainability, suggesting that furniture can last longer when it is felt and remembered.
